Will Hue Jackson let Todd Haley run the offense?

Hue Jackson was reluctant to give up the play-calling duties in his first two seasons as the Browns head coach. When the Browns hired Jackson, he was known as an offensive guru. But after the 2017 season, Cleveland hired Todd Haley as the offensive coordinator and gave him play-calling duties.

The hope now is that Jackson will oversee the entire team instead of focusing primarily on the offense and the quarterbacks. But if Jackson was so reluctant to give up the play-calling duties, how hard will it be for him to stay away from taking control of the offense?

Haley and Jackson share a similar offensive philosophy in that they both prefer vertical offenses. When Haley was hired, the expectation was that the offensive playbook will share Jackson’s and Haley’s philosophies.

Everybody will get to see who has the most control over the offense when training camp practices begin. Will Jackson hover over the offensive units for most of the practice, or will he be overseeing every unit on the team from a distance?

One of the hopes of having Jackson away from the offense is it will let him get a better feel for what the team needs to improve on.

If Jackson can let Haley do his thing during training camp, it could be a great sign for the future of the team.
