Donald Penn, Oakland Raiders

This one wouldn’t be more than a year or two rental as the Cleveland Browns look for a permanent solution, but if they pulled it off they could have a fantastic offensive line. Donald Penn is a 35-year old left tackle with 170 career starts under his belt and is a well-respected blindside protector.

According to Pro Football Focus (subscription required), he was the No. 12 left tackle in the NFL with a 79.4 grade. He’s also potentially on the outs with the Raiders after they spent a first-round pick on Kolton Miller out of UCLA to take his place.

Penn even placed an angry call to head coach Jon Gruden when the team took Miller earlier in the offseason. The two seem to have moved past it, but the underlying issue remains — Penn’s days are numbered in Oakland.

Maybe the Browns giving them a call and throwing a draft pick their way would be all it would take to get the veteran player. Adding Penn and moving Bitonio back to his original position allows the Browns to be a much better team up front.

Again, this could be just a one-year move, but it would make much more sense than going to ‘Plan Z’ so early in training camp.
