Cleveland Browns: Just how bad have first-round picks been?
By Randy Gurzi
2012 First round pick: Trent Richardson, Running Back
Games played with Browns: 17
Where is he now? Hasn’t played in NFL since 2014
The Browns nearly salvaged this pick, but we will get to that in a bit. During his incredibly brief span with the Browns, the No. 3 overall pick out of Alabama wasn’t terrible. He just wasn’t special.

He had 950 yards and 11 touchdowns on the ground as a rookie, but his yards per carry weren’t great at just 3.6. He still managed more than 1,200 total yards when you add in his 51 receptions for 367 and another score. The hopes were high though considering he had shown promise on a roster that frankly wasn’t great.
Cleveland then flipped him for another first-round pick when the Indianapolis Colts overvalued him. That’s where he began to be a punchline. Richardson was awful for the Colts and lasted just two seasons with them and had 3.1 yards per rush and only seven total touchdowns.
After trying out with a couple NFL teams, Richardson joined the Saskatchewan Roughriders last year and was injured after just four games. Currently, he’s suspended by the team.
