Emerging receivers

The Cleveland Browns made a lot of moves to fill out the wide receiver room, creating competition among the wide receivers throughout training camp.

One of the players that has taken advantage of the competition has been Rashard Higgins. Playing with the second-team offense, Higgins has been making plays all over the field. He has also built a strong chemistry with Baker Mayfield. Having such good chemistry with the team’s franchise quarterback could keep him on the roster for a while.

Another player that has emerged during training camp has been Antonio Callaway. Callaway has shown that he can burn past defenders with his speed. His strong hands and ability to create space with is route running has also stood out.

Now that Coleman is gone, Callaway will now be able to get more reps and work on the rest of his game. Keep in mind, he has not played a game of football in over a year, and may need time until he is ready for full-time duty. Receiving more reps will help him get more prepared for a bigger role during the season.

Since Higgins and Callaway are having strong camps, the Browns may want them to have significant roles in the 2018 offense. With Jarvis Landry and Josh Gordon as the starters, Coleman was blocking the two from having those types of roles.

Now the battle to watch will be Higgins and Callaway battling to be the third receiver. The Browns will get to see Higgins against the starters instead of playing against the second-team with Coleman out.
