Cornerbacks (5): Denzel Ward, Terrance Mitchell, T.J. Carrie, E.J. Gaines, Michael Jordan

There was a brief scare when cornerback E.J. Gaines was carted off in practice midway through the preseason. However, he looks to be close to returning with maybe a couple weeks being the worst case scenario.

More from Dawg Pound Daily

He likely still doesn’t start, but his talent makes them incredibly strong at corner. Terrance Mitchell has been the surprise player here and has earned a starting job. T.J. Carrie is the third guy while Gaines is out and could get more playing time if Denzel Ward’s back issue lingers.

Michael Jordan edges out Simeon Thomas for the last spot, but it wouldn’t be surprising to see that go in a different direction. Jordan’s experience amid the health issues are the reason for the nod to favor him in this prediction.

Safety (4): Damarious Randall, Derrick Kindred, Jabrill Peppers, Briean Boddy-Calhoun

Damarious Randall also had an injury scare but should be good to go for Week 1. If not,  Briean Boddy-Calhoun may get the start at free safety. His ability to play both safety and corner helps the team tremendously as he can also fill in at corner for injuries if necessary.

Derrick Kindred keeps his strong safety job and Jabrill Peppers backs him up. They probably want Peppers to become the starter given he was a day one draft pick, but Kindred is clearly the better player.
