Gonzalez Loses the Game

Nearly singlehandedly, kicker Zane Gonzalez lost this football game. With three missed kicks, including two missed extra points, the “In-Zane” kicker truly had fans going absolutely mental on Sunday afternoon, at about 4:00 PM. Tyrod Taylor and Antonio Callaway connected on a touchdown with mere minutes left in the game to tie it at 18, but Gonzalez missed the go-ahead extra point. This was a tale of hair-pullingly bad kicking performance.

Zane Gonzalez either has the worst kicker “yips” of all time, or there is something in the water at Arizona State University. While with the Sun Devils, Gonzalez was the best kicker perhaps in all of college football. With stunning accuracy, he actually got himself drafted in the seventh round by the Browns. Kickers are people too, you know.

But ever since then, ever since donning the orange and brown, Gonzalez has been nothing but a series of field goal blunders. Multiple missed chips shots, a blocked game-winner last week, and a missed game-winner this week.

If Gonzalez was on, the Browns would have easily won this game. But everything has fallen apart for the former Sun Devil, and honestly, it doesn’t look like he’s getting it together any time soon. Dan Bailey, anyone?
