Stud: Terrance Mitchell, Cornerback

There was plenty of attention on the Cleveland Browns starting cornerback this season. Well, at least one of them. Denzel Ward was one of the best rookies in Week 1 but his counterpart Terrance Mitchell stepped up in Week 2.

Mitchell may be best known for getting under the skin of wide receiver Jarvis Landry in training camp. The two were matched up with one another for much of the camp and it led to some great battles. It also got some blood boiling.

Landry grew weary of Mitchell’s physical play and the two ended up fighting. Landry thought Mitchell was showboating and he threw a ball at his head and they had to be split up. Both are fiery players and Mitchell is going to endear himself to fans because of the way he annoys receivers.

Against the Saints, Michael Thomas found that out the hard way. Yes, Thomas had the last laugh as he scored a couple touchdowns, but he had to work for every inch against these corners and Mitchell made him pay for a couple catches.

Twice in this game, he forced fumbles out of the hands of the Saints best receiver and each time the Browns picked the ball up. First, free safety Damarious Randall recovered a fumble and later Mitchell did.

It was those kinds of plays that kept the high-scoring New Orleans offense in check. Mitchell and the defense have been great thus far and he deserves praise.
