Dud: Carlos Hyde, Running Back

This one could fall back on offensive coordinator Todd Haley as well, but the Browns are messing up bad on offense. They keep sticking with a veteran who isn’t getting it done with a better rookie option on the bench. No, we aren’t talking about Tyrod Taylor vs. Baker Mayfield, but instead Carlos Hyde vs. rookie Nick Chubb.

For two weeks in a row now, Hyde has played poorly. Against the Steelers, he had 62 yards on 22 carries — good for 2.8 per attempt. He was worse this week with 43 yards on 16 carries — 2.7 yards per try.

Now to his credit, he’s run in two touchdowns, but both were goal-line carries rather than him breaking off a big run. The sample size is small, but Chubb has been better in his limited tries.

Chubb had three carries for 21 yards in Week 1 and two for 14 in Week 2. That’s an average of 7.0 yards per attempt in each game. Yet after each of his runs goes for a decent gain, he’s sent back to the bench — so much for Haley riding the hot hand.

Clearly, that was smoke being blown when the coaches claimed they would go with who was hot because what they’re actually doing is riding the guy they paid too much money for and he’s not getting it done.
