Dud: Tyrod Taylor

Tyrod Taylor was forced to leave Thursday night’s game against the Jets due to a concussion he suffered in the first half. Everyone hopes that Taylor is able to heal quickly, as head injuries are a serious injury that nobody wishes upon their worst enemy.

But when Taylor was in the game before the injury, he was struggling mightily to move the Browns offense down the field. Taylor completed only four of his 14 passes for 19 yards. He also chipped in 22 rushing yards on four carries, but was sacked three times for 22 yards.

Taylor never seemed comfortable on Thursday night. The Browns offensive line was struggling to keep pressure off Taylor during most of the drives. But even when there was no pressure, Taylor looked more ready to run the ball instead of completing a pass.

With Taylor under center, the Browns offense seemed very stagnant. Defenses have been loading the box, knowing that Taylor was not going to tear them apart down the field. That was the case Thursday, as the Jets loaded the box and brought extra pressure, creating problems for Taylor.

Taylor missed multiple throws downfield that would have resulted in touchdowns had he delivered better throws. Despite having Antonio Callaway open multiple times, Taylor could not put enough juice on the ball to hit Callaway in stride.

Taylor has struggled in the three games to open the 2018 season, and Thursday night may have been his last game starting. Everyone hopes that he can heal from his concussion, but it is looking like he has lost his starting quarterback job in Cleveland.
