Dud: Offensive Line

Since the retirement of future Hall of Famer Joe Thomas, the Browns have struggled to put together a competent offensive line.

The group struggled immensely on Thursday night, as it seemed they could not keep the Jets defenders out of the backfield.

When Taylor was in the game, he was dealing with pressure almost every snap that he took. By the time that he reached the top of his drop, he almost had no other choice but to scramble instead of trying to get rid of the ball.

The offensive line struggled to pick up blitzes that the Jets defense was not even disguising, leaving open shots to Taylor or Hyde in the backfield. For the entire game, the Browns offensive line surrendered four sacks, losing 30 yards.

Through the first games of the season, the offensive line has struggled mightily in keeping the quarterback clean. The changes throughout the preseason could have created most of the problems, and the more reps the unit gets together will equal more success.

But it is obvious right now that the offensive line is a key reason as to why the Browns offense has struggled this season. With ten days to get ready for the next game, hopefully they can clean up their communication mistakes to keep the quarterback clean, especially if our next player mentioned will be the starter.
