Disappointment: Briean Boddy-Calhoun

Entering the 2018 season, Briean Boddy-Calhoun was expected to be a versatile weapon. Boddy-Calhoun has shown that he can be a tough guy to get completions on when he is in the slot. And during the preseason, he showed great range as a safety that allowed to make plays on throws from sideline-to-sideline.

But after getting torched for almost the entire game in the regular season opener against the Steelers, Boddy-Calhoun has been relegated to playing on special teams.

Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger made it a point of emphasis to target Boddy-Calhoun, no matter who was lined up against him. It became apparent that Boddy-Calhoun was seen as the weakness in the Browns secondary, and the Steelers took advantage of it.

With the amount of depth the Browns had at cornerback, defensive coordinator Gregg Williams was not going to let a player stay on the field if he was being picked apart. Boddy-Calhoun was giving up big play after big play against the Steelers, so the next week he played only five snaps, and that was at free safety.

The following week, Boddy-Calhoun did not see a defensive snap. For the most part his only snaps came on special teams ever since.

But now that cornerback Terrance Mitchell will be out for a while with a broken wrist, Boddy-Calhoun could see more snaps on defense to get some redemption. He played a decent amount of snaps against the Raiders in with Mitchell out, but he also committed a holding penalty.

With the expectations for Boddy-Calhoun entering the season, he has been one of the biggest disappointments this season.
