Cleveland Browns: Week 5 Game Prediction

On the surface, this would appear to be two teams heading in different directions. The Baltimore Ravens are coming into First Energy Stadium after handily defeating the Pittsburgh Steelers 26-14 on Sunday Night Football. The Browns return home after a deflating road loss to the Oakland Raiders 42-45. Appearances can be deceiving.

Through the first three games of the young NFL season, the Browns defense had been playing lights out football. Coming off their worst performance, by far, I expect a big bounce game for Gregg Williams’ unit in front of their home fans.

I look for Myles Garrett to have his best game so far this season, taking over for stretches of the contest. Feeding off of Garrett’s ability to wreak havoc, the back end of the defense should have ample opportunity for turnovers. Don’t be surprised if the Browns defense finds the end zone at least once in this game.

Leaving Oakland with 42 points on the board, despite having four turnovers, is proof that the offense has the capability to light it up. Make no mistake, four turnovers would be a death sentence against this Ravens defense. Scoring opportunities will be limited. Cleveland will have to get their running game going to open up things for Baker Mayfield and the receivers.

Expect to see a decided uptick in usage for Nick Chubb. One match-up the Browns will need to exploit is Brandon Carr on Antonio Callaway. Carr will not be able to run with Callaway, and I expect him to get loose in the Ravens secondary. Big play opportunities will be there for Mayfield.

The biggest discrepancy in this game will be between the special team units. Justin Tucker is an absolute weapon for this Ravens team, and they will brandish him. If the Brown’s defense is successful, it means limiting the Ravens to field goals. Baltimore is right at home in this kind of games. The Achilles heel for the Browns has been their kick coverage units, and that will not change on Sunday. Look for the Ravens to take one to the house this week.

Next. Desmond Harrison’s improvement is night and day. dark

The Browns forcing turnovers will give Mayfield extra opportunities and he will make the Ravens pay. Overcoming the special team woes the Browns pull out a huge divisional game in front of the home crowd.
Final Score: Baltimore 23, Cleveland 28
