Stud: Duke Johnson

Duke Johnson voiced his frustrations about his lack of touches this season in the lead up to the Chargers game. Despite being the Browns best play-maker the past two seasons and signing an extension this off-season, Johnson’s presence in the offense has been practically non-existent.

On Sunday, Johnson started getting the touches that he deserves. And he did a great job of capitalizing on each opportunity.

Johnson rushed for 36 yards on two carries and caught four of his five targets for 73 receiving yards. Johnson was on the field often with the Browns trailing for almost the entire game, but it was good to see him get opportunities to make plays.

Johnson may not have reached the end-zone on Sunday, but he is still showing that he can create explosive plays. With the Browns being decimated with injuries at wide receiver, it was surprising to not see Johnson split out wide throughout the game.

Despite that, this is the type of game that should help build Johnson’s confidence. It should also build Todd Haley’s confidence in Johnson, as the offensive coordinator has not featured Johnson the way he should have been this season.

Johnson showed Sunday that it is tough for defenses to cover him, allowing him to create some big plays. With the Browns currently lacking offensive weapons, Sunday should be the start of Johnson’s season turning around for the better.
