Dud: Discipline

The Cleveland Browns have made a bunch of mistakes this season that have cost them games. But one of the biggest problems that they have made is penalties.

The Browns have been one of the most penalized teams in the league this season. That was the case once again on Sunday, as Cleveland was penalized 14 times for 114 yards. To put those numbers in perspective, the Browns had five less penalty yards than total rushing yards on the day.

Their 58 penalties on the season has put them in a three-way tie for the most penalties in the league. They also have the fourth most penalty yards on the year.

Penalties can either kill drives or keep drives going for the opponent. The reason why the Browns losses this year have been so brutal is because the Browns have made too many bad penalties in every game.

Sunday was another case of that, as it seemed the Browns could not get out of their own way. 14 penalties is what a team would expect over a two or three game span.

For the most part, having an undisciplined team falls on the shoulders of the head coach. This season, Hue Jackson has not done much to make it seem like the Browns are becoming a more disciplined team.

If the Browns want to turn this season around and win some games, they need to become a much more disciplined team. If they remain an undisciplined team, it could cost Jackson his job.
