With Terrance Mitchell and E.J. Gaines out due to injury, the Browns decided to play Damarious Randall at cornerback while moving Briean Boddy-Calhoun to safety. It was a risky decision, but it was a move that helped the Browns defense on Sunday.
Playing at corner for the first time with the Browns, Randall continued to make plays all over the field. He made 12 tackles on Sunday, and played well in coverage.
He was given the task to shadow Mike Evans for most of the game because Randall had the best size of any other player in the Browns secondary. And for playing cornerback for the first time this season, Randall held up well against one of the best wide receivers in the NFL.
Evans still had a good game, catching seven passes for 107 yards. But Randall was not making it easy on Evans. There were catches by Evans that were due to him finding holes in the Browns zone coverage.
Randall has been one of the best play-makers for the Browns this season. His tackling ability is top-notch, as he showed that against Tampa Bay. He was put in a tough assignment on Sunday, and he held up well.
