Chris Hogan

If the Patriots traded Chris Hogan, it would certainly be one of the biggest surprises at the trade deadline. But with the history of Bill Belichick trading veterans in the middle of the season, it could be a possibility.

Hogan was expected to have a strong season in 2018 after a breakout season in 2017. But so far, he has been a disappointment, catching only 21 passes for 284 yards and two touchdowns.

With Josh Gordon emerging in the Patriots offense and Julian Edelman back from suspension, Hogan is no longer the No. 2 receiver for Tom Brady. In fact, he is likely the No. 4 receiver with Rob Gronkowski’s presence.

New England also has Phillip Dorsett, who was playing more snaps at the beginning of the season than the last two weeks. Dorsett’s speed could be more beneficial to New England instead of Hogan.

With the Browns desperate need for a wide receiver and their history of trades with the Patriots the last couple of seasons, they should at least call to see what it would take to acquire Hogan. Hogan is not the deep threat that would help open up the Browns offense, but Cleveland needs a receiver that is reliable.

Due to be a free agent at the end of the season, the Patriots may want to receive assets for Hogan instead of potentially losing him for nothing. With some extra mid-round picks, the Browns could give the Patriots what they want for Hogan.
