Right man for right now

It may seem like an oxymoron to claim that Gregg Williams will teach the young players to be professionals. But that is exactly what he is going to do. He will expect the first and second-year players to come to work and treat their responsibilities as a job.

Williams is not going to babysit players. He will not put up with players who do not pay attention or take care of their responsibilities. He will go out of his way to teach younger players how to live life and play football as men and as professionals.

With a young roster, some basic education on how to be a professional may be just what this team needs. Instead of bringing in veterans who are supposed to teach these players how to be professional, it might be time for a head coach to teach the players how to do it. It might be time for the head coach to expect players to act professionally and hold them accountable when they don’t.

Gregg William is the right coach for right now. He is the right coach not because he has the right scheme or because he is the best leader moving forward. No, he is the right coach for right now because he can teach the entire team exactly what it needs to learn. This team needs to mature quickly. They need to become professionals. This team needs to play with confidence and swagger. Gregg Williams will bring both.

Williams is the coach the Browns need to move these younger players along. But he is not the coach they need long-term. If Williams can get the Browns players over the hill of moving from college to maturity, then his tenure will be a smashing success.
