(7-1) Kansas City Chiefs vs. (2-5-1) Cleveland Browns

What a week! The “internal discord” between Hue Jackson and Todd Haley finally came to a conclusion, and somehow Gregg Williams came out the victor. M. Night Shyamalan could not write this stuff.

This week’s drama wraps up just in time for Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs to come to town. Yay! There is no getting around the fact that if the Cleveland Browns do not score touchdowns, this game will get out of hand in a hurry.

More from Dawg Pound Daily

With the dismissal of Haley, the Browns promoted running backs coach Freddie Kitchens to offensive coordinator. This will be Kitchens first game (aside from week 4 of the preseason) calling plays, so it’s impossible to know what to expect. It will be interesting to see if Kitchens implements a game plan that is tailored to Baker Mayfield’s skill set. The last regime didn’t seem interested in getting Mayfield comfortable.

On offense, establishing the run will be paramount to keeping the Chiefs offense on the sideline. Elongating drives and bleeding the clock is the only path to victory. The Browns to do not have the firepower to get in a shoot-out with this Chiefs offense.

For the defense, the motto this week should be “Hold Fast”. The Chiefs will move the ball, and they will score touchdowns. The Browns have been great at one thing this season. They force turnovers, and on Sunday they need to turn that up to 11. Gregg Williams would be wise to avoid his urge to blitz this week. That being said, expect the Browns to blitz and get gashed for big plays. Frequently.

No Hot takes here. The Chiefs are simply going to be too much for this young Browns squad. The defense will probably force a turnover or two, but the chunk plays will take their toll. The real game will be how the Browns respond to the coaching change on the offensive side of the ball. If Mayfield shows progression, the Browns (internally at least) will consider it a win.

Final score: Browns 28, Chiefs 42
