Cleveland Browns: Week 9 studs and duds from loss to Chiefs
By Dan Justik
Dud: Jamie Collins
Ever since the Cleveland Browns traded for Jamie Collins in 2016, he has been an enigma in the brown and orange. He has shown that he can be one of the most talented linebackers in the NFL, making plays all over the field.
But he has also shown a tendency to not give effort on plays that he could have an effect on. In fact, Collins has shown more laziness than talent for most of his tenure with the Browns.
That did not change on Sunday, as there were multiple occurrences of Collins taking plays off. In one example, Collins had an empty to gap to fill on a goal-line play. Instead of filling the gap and trying to make a play on the ball carrier, Collins lets himself get eaten up by a block. The Chiefs would score on the play.
And even when Collins does show effort, his tackling has been very inconsistent. On Kareem Hunt’s first touchdown of the game, Collins had a prime chance to bring him down. Instead, Collins dove and bounced right off of Hunt.
Collins did lead the team with seven tackles, but that still does not make up for his lack of effort. With a defense that needed players to step up after the injuries, Collins did a better job of creating more problems for the defense.
