Drafting Chad Thomas in the third

We have already praised the Browns for their drafting several times. They deserve it because they did phenomenally well. We also pointed out that not every pick was great and the move they made in the third round was another example of that.

Cleveland originally owned the No. 64 pick, which would have closed out the second round. They traded down though and sent that pick to the Indianapolis Colts. In exchange, the Browns picked up a sixth-round pick as well as the No. 67 overall selection.

Their sixth-round selection was later used in the move to get Florida receiver Antonio Callaway — who has been playing well for them. As far as the No. 67 pick they got from Indy, he hasn’t contributed at all.

Chad Thomas, the Miami defensive end, was that pick and so far he hasn’t recorded any statistics in four games for the Browns. And that’s been hurting them as Cleveland has struggled in trying to find some help on the defensive line behind Myles Garrett and Emmanuel Ogbah.

Thankfully, fifth-round linebacker Genard Avery has helped. His build has allowed him to play closer to the line and he’s been getting praised for his work as an edge rusher. Still, it would have been nice to find some help with their earlier picks.
