The potential for a great head coach

The fact that John Dorsey has done so well is encouraging. More encouraging is the way he has already gained Jimmy Haslam’s trust. The team’s owner spent the last two seasons knee-deep in Hue Jackson’s excuses and believed the reason he is the second-worst head coach of all-time was everyone else’s fault.

Somehow, Dorsey got through and proved that wrong. He also got Haslam to back off on the upcoming coaching search.

Originally reports said Haslam and his wife would be heavily involved in the search. Then we found out later that it was indeed falling on Dorsey. While he has never hired a coach in his career, he’s shown enough knowledge of the game to give us all reason to believe he will do well in this endeavor.

Even better, there’s going to be some solid candidates interested in the job. This isn’t the same Browns team that seems destined to lose. Instead, this is a strong, young roster with a bright future. It’s a good enough team that respected people like Bruce Arians have said they would take the job — actually, he even said it was the only job he would consider.

All that being said, the Browns have a real chance to not just get a decent head coach, but one that could potentially be great.
