A young core ready to make their mark

While John Dorsey has done a lot right since coming to Cleveland, he was slightly wrong about one thing — the “real players” comment. Yes, there were some major whiffs by the staff before him, but former general manager Sashi Brown did hit on a few players during his time.

Some of his best picks were defensive ends Myles Garrett and Emmanuel Ogbah, defensive tackle Larry Ogunjobi, safety Derrick Kindred, and tight end David Njoku. All those players are key contributors to the current Browns team and they’re also a huge part of their bright future.

Of course, Dorsey hitting on the guys he drafted this season are even more encouraging. Baker Mayfield, Denzel Ward, and Nick Chubb are easily the best three players drafted this season and they’re dominating the weekly rookie awards in the NFL.

So while Brown missed with picks like Corey Coleman, he did find some good players who are now part of the group that is turning things around in Cleveland. That being said, Dorsey has done much better with just one draft and the future looks bright for this young team that’s ready to make a name for themselves in the NFL.

And he did keep the above-mentioned players, so obviously he didn’t think all the previous picks were bad — just the ones he got rid of.
