Dud: Gregg Williams

Since he was promoted to the interim head coaching job, Gregg Williams has done a great job of managing the defense as well as the entire team. But the defense looked completely outmatched by Bill O’Brien and the Houston offense on Sunday.

Deshaun Watson was consistently able to find holes in the Browns defense, and was able to pick them apart and move them down the field. The Browns front was able to create pressure on Watson, but they were rarely able to bring Watson down before he could make a play.

The Texans were also able to run all over the Browns defense, with Lamar Miller leading the way 103 yards on 19 carries. Overall, the Texans rushed for 187 yards on 39 carries, an average of 4.8 yards per carry.

When the Browns defense is unable to create turnovers, this is the result of those games. The Browns defense gives up way too much yardage, allowing the offense to get points on most of their drives.

Williams may not be calling plays anymore, as his son, Blake Williams, has been the defensive play-caller the past three weeks. But this is still Gregg’s defense, and he and his son had no answers for the Texans offense.
