To sum it all up

I’ll finish this article the same way it started by saying, this coaching search requires asking many hard questions that don’t have easy answers. That’s the nature of every coaching search. In his first 12 months on the job, John Dorsey has made, by most accounts, mostly good moves and the Browns seem to be well positioned for sustained success.

However, as with most general managers, the ultimate success of the Dorsey regime will very likely be decided by this hire.

The next head coach of the Cleveland Browns will have to be able to work with and get the most out of Baker Mayfield. This is particularly important while Mayfield will be on his rookie contract for the next several years.

The Browns window is wide open. The right choice for head coach will impact the fortunes of the Cleveland Browns for years to come.

John Dorsey certainly had a short list in mind when he accepted the job as general manager last year.

The hope is that those names took into consideration the coaches he thought could work best with Baker Mayfield because like Rodgers-McCarthy and Brees-Payton, the Browns will want this coach and quarterback to have a long honeymoon.
