Have the Cleveland Browns built a strong foundation?
By Dan Justik
The Cleveland Browns are a young team that has shown potential, but have they built a strong foundation that will have them competing for a playoff spot in the near future?
The 2018 season has been a major turnaround for the Cleveland Browns, as they are no longer the easy game on every team’s schedule.
With a roster based around a bunch of young players, the Browns organization should be excited about what the future might hold for the team.
For the first time since the team returned to Cleveland in 1999, the Browns have a franchise quarterback in Baker Mayfield, creating optimism for the entire fan base.
In his short time as the Browns starting quarterback, Mayfield has shown the potential of being the next best quarterback in the NFL. His play has even impressed opponents following games.
With Mayfield in the fold, the Browns no longer have to look at finding their next quarterback, and instead can focus on adding talent to the other positions.
The Browns have solid talent on both sides of the ball, but there are obvious needs on the roster. With John Dorsey leading the way, there is a good chance most of those needs will be addressed in the spring.
That leads to the question of if the Browns have built a strong roster foundation so far. Former NFL scout who now works for NFL Network, Daniel Jeremiah, shared a checklist for what he believes is an “outstanding foundation.”
Jeremiah spent eight years as a scout for the Philadelphia Eagles, Cleveland Browns, and Baltimore Ravens. So he would know what the football personnel of an organization would want for a foundation.
With that said, we take a look at how would the Browns foundation look if we applied this checklist to their current roster.
