Cleveland Browns: Studs and duds in Week 14 win over Carolina
By Randy Gurzi
Stud: Baker Mayfield, Quarterback
There likely wasn’t anyone in Cleveland who enjoyed studying the film from last week less than Baker Mayfield did. The young quarterback had his worst game as a pro, throwing three picks in the first half as the Browns lost to the Texans.
The positive for him to take away though was how he bounced back in the second half and played much better. It didn’t get them back in the game, but it was a confidence booster heading into this past week. And what a confidence builder it was.
Once again, Mayfield came into a game feeling dangerous as he completed 18 passes while seeing only four of his 22 attempts hit the turf. He finished with 238 yards, one touchdown and, most importantly, no turnovers.
It was a great bounce-back game for Mayfield. He not only showed the poise to shake off the multi-pick game from a week ago but he also never panicked despite the fact the Panthers kept taking the lead. He would just calmly march his team back down the field and eventually, they were able to take the lead and walk away with another win.
Mayfield had his critics coming into the league and he wasn’t expected to be the top pick according to most draft experts. Since Cleveland went against the grain and took the charismatic Mayfield, they’ve done nothing but get proven right about him time and again.
