Cleveland Browns fans are exceptional for many reasons. Unfortunately one of the things we are exceptional at is evaluating poor quarterback play. But we’re feeling optimistic these days so here’s a list that hopefully brings back some happy memories.

There are only 32 starting quarterbacks in the league. You would think that the law of averages would have provided the Cleveland Browns with at least one franchise quarterback since 1999.

But we all know that hasn’t been the case.

Seeing our revolving door of quarterbacks is why fans of my generation have such fond memories of names like Sipe and Kosar. And for those who go further back, there are names like Ryan, Nelson, and Graham. It’s also why were so excited about Baker Mayfield.

It’s simple really. When you have quality quarterback play you have a chance to win any game. But since returning to the league in 1999, the Browns have struggled to get even average quarterback play.

However, the football gods aren’t always cruel. Every so often, Browns fans have been treated to quarterback play that keeps us going by reminding us of what teams with franchise quarterbacks enjoy every week. The kind of play we hope to enjoy from Baker Mayfield as he assumes his role as the face of the Cleveland Browns franchise.

To come up with this list, we limited ourselves to the years after the Browns return to the NFL in 1999. It may have been too depressing otherwise. And while we hope that Baker Mayfield will join this list soon, he’s not here quite yet.
