Dan Campbell

The Cleveland Browns requested permission to interview New Orleans Saints tight ends coach and assistant coach, Dan Campbell, for their head coaching vacancy, according to NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport.

Campbell was a tight end for four different teams from 1999-2009. The 42-year-old started his coaching career as an intern in 2010 with the Miami Dolphins. In 2011, the Dolphins named him the tight ends coach, serving in that capacity until 2015.

During the 2015 season, the Dolphins fired then head coach Joe Philbin after starting the season 1-3. Campbell was named the interim head coach, leading the Dolphins to a 5-7 record during his time and finished the season with a 6-10 record.  Similar to Williams, Campbell added toughness and discipline to the Dolphins when he was named the interim head coach.

After not receiving the Dolphins full-time head coaching job, Campbell became the Saints tight ends coach and assistant head coach in 2016 and has served in that capacity since.

Campbell was 39-years-old when he became the Dolphins interim head coach, and he was one of the youngest head coaches in the NFL at the time. Since then, he has been able to learn from Sean Payton what it takes to be a successful head coach in the NFL. Campbell has shown an ability to be a great teacher and has done well developing players in New Orleans.
