8. Antonio Callaway

Antonio Callaway was a controversial pick, and one of my personal favorites From Cleveland’s draft class. Despite being a first-round talent, he had missed his entire junior season at Florida because of a sexual assault case. It was later determined that he was not responsible for anything, but at this point, he instead made himself eligible for the draft.

More from Dawg Pound Daily

I made the comparison of Antonio Callaway to T.Y. Hilton because of his speed, his route running, and big play ability. While not the true number one receiver Hilton is, Callaway still managed to have a great rookie season.

He had 43 receptions (4th on the team) for 586 yards (3rd on the team) and five touchdowns (1st on the team).

Outside of Jarvis Landry and David Njoku, Antonio Callaway was one Baker Mayfield’s most targeted, go-to receivers. He showed speed, athleticism and that he’s left the past behind him.

7. Genard Avery

One of the most unknown players that Cleveland drafted this year was Avery. He was expected to come in and provide much-needed depth and come in on rotation. He did all that and more.

After Christian Kirksey went to IR, Avery stepped into the WILL (weakside) linebacker position and filled in perfectly. He had  40 tackles and 4.5 sacks as a rookie, the third most on the team.

Next season, Kirksey will likely end up back in the starting position but Genard Avery’s ability to play on either side of the MIKE (middle) linebacker is interesting.

Kirksey signed an extension through 2022, but John Dorsey has shown he can/will move any player he wants despite that (Carlos Hyde). There was also speculation that before the trade deadline that Jamie Collins was on the block. Is he still there? Genard Avery played well above a fifth-round pick and might have opened the floodgates.
