Jason Verrett, Cornerback

Much like Roby, Jason Verrett had a chance to cash in when he hit free agency this off-season. However, the 27-year-old Los Angeles Chargers has only played 63 snaps since the Chargers moved to Los Angeles after the 2016 season.

In the first two seasons of his career, Verrett looked like he was going to be one of the next best cornerbacks in the league. In 2015, the second season of his career, Verrett made 47 total tackles, two tackles for loss, three interceptions, and 12 passes defended. He allowed only a 58.3 percent catch percentage, according to Pro Football Focus.

Ever since his strong 2015 season, Verrett has only played in five games. In 2016, he missed most of the season due to a torn ACL. In 2016, Verrett missed all but one game due to another knee injury and surgery. Then in 2018, Verrett suffered a torn Achilles in July, effectively ending his season before it started.

With the severity of his injuries the past three years, there is an extremely slim chance that a team will be willing to sign him to anything but a short-term deal.

Verrett showed elite coverage skills and ball skills that made it hard for any quarterback that throws at him. The question now is if the injuries Verrett suffered will affect his athleticism. Perhaps the injuries have taken such a toll on Verrett that he is no longer the caliber of player that he showed in 2015.

Verrett falls into the same category as Roby if the Browns signed him this off-season. Verrett is still at a young enough age that if everything works well for him in 2019, he could become the running mate with Ward at cornerback for the immediate future. If the Browns can sign him to a low risk, short-term deal, it would make a lot of sense to see if he still has the same abilities as he did in 2015.
