4. Become road warriors

The close loss to Baltimore and the tie to Pittsburgh hurt Cleveland in 2019, but even more troublesome was their play on the road. On the year, they wound up with a 2-6 record away from FirstEnergy Stadium. While they were completely robbed of a win in Oakland as the refs cost Baker Mayfield a win in his first career start, they still need to become better on the road.

It’s a problem that goes back years as the Browns nearly ties the record for the most road losses in a row as they entered Week 12 with a 25-game road losing streak. They were one loss shy of tying the Detroit Lions with 26 losses while traveling. The Browns ended up ending the streak with a convincing win over the Cincinnati Bengals and later added a one-point win over the Denver Broncos in Week 15.

However, both those teams were 6-10 franchises. Should the Browns want to become contenders, they need to start traveling better. Winning the AFC North would guarantee a home playoff game, but they would need to win a whole lot more to avoid going on the road at all in the postseason.

Either way, they will have to learn to win against good teams on the road. They made great strides to become a 5-2-1 club at home and even winning half their road games gives them a winning record. A road record over .500 makes them a legit double-digit winning team.
