Los Angeles Chargers – Wide Receiver Tyrell Williams

Based on the Browns’ interest in trading for New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr., it is obvious that they want to find a play-making receiver this off-season. If they are unable to complete a trade for Beckham, they should look at the free agent market.

More from Dawg Pound Daily

Tyrell Williams is arguably the most coveted free agent wide receiver in the class because of his ability to make plays downfield. Williams was a regular long-ball threat for Philip Rivers and the Chargers offense.

In 2018, Williams caught 41 passes for 653 yards and five touchdowns. His longest reception last season went for 75 yards. It is obvious how much of a vertical threat he was considering his 15.9 yards per reception rate.

The Browns severely lacked a vertical threat in their offense last season, with Breshad Perriman and Antonio Callaway showing flashes of being that type of player. However, the Browns need to find a more consistent threat that will stretch defenses vertically.

The one concern with Williams was his lack of impact in every game. He had several games where he took the top off defenses, including against the Browns Week 6 (three receptions, 118 yards, two touchdowns), but there were more games where he was practically nonexistent. If he can find an offense with more consistent targets, then he may be able to show his ability for an entire season.
