Justin Houston becomes their new edge rushing star

With the final prediction for the Cleveland Browns offseason, they go after another face that’s familiar to John Dorsey. Justin Houston was recently released by the Chiefs but he could still have plenty left in the tank — which was evidenced by his 18.5 sacks over the past two seasons in Kansas City.

Despite those numbers being respectable, Houston was no longer the top edge rusher in K.C. and his salary was far greater than his play. That doesn’t mean there won’t be a market for the 30-year old as he should have plenty of suitors.

Cleveland could have the edge given the relationship between the player and the Browns GM. Dorsey was the one in charge when Houston and his representatives worked out a six-year $101 million contract in 2015, which came following a season that saw the outside linebacker recorded 22 sacks.

Looking at his fit with the Browns, Houston wouldn’t play linebacker but instead would move up to the front lines as a defensive end. Playing opposite Myles Garrett, one of the fastest rising stars in the NFL, would afford Houston plenty of one-on-one opportunities. He could also extend his shelf life considering the presence of Emmanuel Ogbah which would allow Houston to play fewer snaps and focus more on getting after the quarterback.

These moves may not have the same appeal as some of the crazy rumors floating around but all would serve a great purpose. They would fill a few holes while also allowing the Browns to enter the 2019 NFL Draft without feeling pressured to go after a specific position.
