Thomas has been one of the best safeties in the NFL over the past several seasons. A key member of the Seattle Seahawks’ “Legion of Boom” secondary, Thomas is one of the best available free agents.
If the Browns were able to land Thomas, it would instantly improve the Browns secondary. Not only does Thomas excel in coverage, but he is also able to make tackles in the open field and can make an impact in the run game.
The Browns are looking to add a safety after trading Peppers. Peppers showed great development in his sophomore season as he made several big plays all over the field. However, if the Browns are able to land Beckham and replace Peppers with Thomas, it is hard to argue with Dorsey moving Peppers.
However, Thomas made all kinds of news during the 2018 season after showing his displeasure with the Seattle organization. The 29-year-old did not show up to the team for training camp and the preseason, but still played in the regular season opener.
However, his season was cut short after suffering a broken leg during Seattle’s Week 4 game. when being carted off the field, Thomas showed his middle finger to the Seattle bench. He would miss the rest of the season due to the injury. In four games, Thomas made 22 total tackles, three interceptions, and five passes defended.
In 2017, Thomas played in 14 games, making 88 total tackles, one tackle for loss, one forced fumble, two interceptions, and seven passed defended.
Thomas is reportedly looking for a contract that would pay him around $15 million per season. NFL Network’s Jane Slater clarified the report on Monday, saying Thomas was looking for a deal that would make him the highest paid safety in the league.
