2016 NFL Draft – Trades out of first round, lands Chris Jones

Although Dorsey is known for being aggressive when attempting to add talent, he is also able to land quality talent when he decides to make a more conservative move. That is what he managed to do in the 2016 Draft when he traded out of the first round.

More from Browns News

Dorsey and the Kansas City Chiefs were slated to have the 28th overall selection in 2016. However, the Chiefs ended up making a deal with the San Francisco 49ers to move out of the first round. The Chiefs traded the 28th and 249th selections and received the 37th, 105th, and 178th overall selections.

The 105th and 178th selections did not end up hitting for Dorsey and the Chiefs, selecting Parker Ehinger and D.J. White with those selections. Neither player remains on Kansas City’s roster and White is currently without a team.

But Dorsey and the Chiefs front office did not miss with the 37th overall selection when they selected defensive tackle Chris Jones. Jones played well in his rookie season but has quickly emerged as one of the best interior defensive linemen in the league over the last two seasons.

In 16 regular season games last season, Jones made 40 total tackles, 19 tackles for loss, 15.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, and 29 quarterback hits.

Dorsey was unable to land two more significant contributors with the other selections from the trade, but he drafted a player who is quickly becoming a top defensive player in the NFL. It goes to show that Dorsey can move down in the draft and still find talent.
