Cleveland Browns: 5 prospects worth trading up for in the 2019 NFL Draft
1. Clelin Ferrell, DE, Clemson
In the words of late pop music superstar Prince, let’s get crazy. Let’s get nuts. The Browns want to launch themselves into Super Bowl contendership? Okay, put a true bookend defensive end opposite Myles Garrett in the form of Clemson’s Clelin Ferrell.
The 6-4, 265-pound, 21-year-old phenom was tremendous for last year’s national champions, and would be a great number one edge rusher for a team. The Browns could take him as the second man behind Myles Garrett, which is, frankly, an embarrassment of riches on the defensive line. Ferrell is just one of the many supremely talented edge rushers in this class, and allowing the Browns to get their hands on him could spell doom for the rest of the AFC North, and the AFC at large.
Ferrell finished last season with 11.5 sacks and 55 total tackles, with 20 of them going for a loss. He defensed two passes on the year, forced three fumbles, and took one of them back for a touchdown. Ferrell is so young, he’s only getting better, and the Browns have a very slight chance to grab him in Thursday’s first round if they trade up.
The only problem with this trade is just how much Cleveland would have to give up to actually pull it off. This deal going off without a hitch would cause chaos on draft night, as Garrett and Ferrell wreak havoc on offensive lines and quarterbacks everywhere in 2019.
