3. How does Kareem Hunt fit in the plans?

John Dorsey has made a lot of great moves for the Cleveland Browns, but he hasn’t been above criticism. One decision he’s made that has been picked apart the most during his tenure was the signing of running back Kareem Hunt.

Looking at things from clearly a football standpoint, Hunt is a fantastic addition. He was the leader in rushing yards as a rookie in 2017 and is also a force in the passing game. In his 27 career games played, Hunt has 2,151 yards rushing with 15 touchdowns. In addition to that, he pulled in 79 receptions for 833 yards and 10 more touchdowns — seven of which came in just 11 games last year.

However, Hunt was available for a reason. He was let go by the Kansas City Chiefs after a video was released that saw him shove and kick a female in an altercation inside Cleveland Hotel. He’s going to be suspended for the first eight games, but Dorsey is taking a chance on the kid — again. He was also the general manager who drafted Hunt in 2017 with the Chiefs despite some concerns that other teams had about him off the field.

While nothing will erase what Hunt has done, we can at least start to see how he fits with the offense during training camp and the preseason. While we all know Hunt is talented, the Cleveland backfield isn’t exactly hurting for talent.

Last season, Nick Chubb ended up taking over the starting spot and he wound up with 996 yards despite not starting the whole season. He added another 149 yards through the air and had 10 total touchdowns. Behind him is Duke Johnson, who can be deadly as a receiver out of the backfield.

All three can hurt defenses which makes it hard to see what the plan is going to be. Perhaps we can get some clues as we get closer to the start of the season, which is why this is a storyline to watch.
