Cleveland Browns: 3 free agents to add after OTAs
By Randy Gurzi
1. Eric Berry, Safety
Yes, this has been mentioned before but it just makes too much sense not to bring up again. The Cleveland Browns were linked to Eric Berry as soon as the Kansas City Chiefs moved on from the veteran safety.
A pairing made sense due to the history between Berry and general manager John Dorsey. While Dorsey wasn’t the GM who drafted Berry out of Tennessee, he was behind the $78 million contract Berry and the Chiefs agreed to in 2017.
Unfortunately, he didn’t do much for the team after signing that deal as a torn Achilles ended his season prematurely. Berry then struggled to return to action and played in only two games but was on the field in the postseason as well.
Another reason it makes sense is the Browns need at the position. After trading Jabrill Peppers and cutting Derrick Kindred, there’s not as much depth at the position with Damarious Randall and Morgan Burnett serving as the only players with extensive experience at the position.
Since his release, there hasn’t been much going on for Berry. He had a free agent visit with the Dallas Cowboys but never signed — despite taking a physical with their doctors.
There are surely risks as his Achilles injury continues to be a problem but the potential reward makes it worth rolling the dice.
