Baker Mayfield, Quarterback

We already know Baker Mayfield is a standout performer, but this year was even more so. The second-year quarterback looked like his old self again during OTAs, a promising sight for Browns fans everywhere. Ever since Mayfield left the field in week 17 of last year with the rookie passing touchdown record, fans have been left clamoring for more. Browns fans know Mayfield’s potential, but now the NFL as a whole knows the same thing. Mayfield will have to be on his toes, and more prepared than ever to face defenses he may have never seen before.

Mayfield was at most every OTA meeting this season, learning more and more of Freddie Kitchens and Todd Monken’s offensive playbook. Mayfield has a year of experience under his belt now, and with another great year he could prove himself to be one of the brightest young stars in the whole of the NFL.

Fans are rightfully excited for the new Mayfield to Beckham Jr. connection that will likely start in training camp, forming throughout the season. This could, and likely will, be the quarterback to wide receiver connection that the Dawg Pound has craved for two decades now, and it could be the main offensive link-up that leads the Browns to the playoffs for the first time since 2002.

But, let’s not get ahead of ourselves. Mayfield’s second year will be interesting to say the least, as he looks to repeat the massive success that was his rookie season. If Baker Mayfield can steadily improve throughout his sophomore campaign like he did during his rookie season, Browns fans are in for a great, possibly contending, football season. But, it all starts with OTAs and training camp.
