No. 2: Week 4, 2015 at San Diego Chargers

The best stretch of football for McCown came in the early portion of the 2015 season which included a game where he nearly led them to an upset over the San Diego Chargers. A week before, McCown threw for 341 yards and two touchdowns in a home loss to the Oakland Raiders. He then took his act on the road against another AFC West team and again lost a close game as the Bolts won 30-27.

As for McCown, he put up some impressive numbers in this game. As was often the case with the Cleveland team he played for, the running game wasn’t enough to lean on — although Isaiah Crowell did have a respectable 63 yards on 12 carries.

Still, McCown ended up having to do the heavy lifting as he completed 32-of-41 passes on the day and had two touchdowns with no picks. What was most impressive was the poise he showed in a close contest. Trailing by a touchdown with roughly seven minutes to play, McCown led the Browns down the field on a time-consuming 10-play, 67-yard drive.

The veteran capped it off with a one-yard touchdown to tight end Gary Barnidge as they tied things up at 27 points apiece. Cleveland ended up losing the game as the defense couldn’t hold and Josh Lambo knocked in a 34-yard field goal as time expired. Nevertheless, McCown played a great game and gave them a fighting chance in this one.
