Again, we absolutely love Josh Cribbs and he would be a lot of fun on this team. He would be able to line up at running back, wide receiver, and return kicks for the Browns. And he would excel in each one of these roles. However, he wouldn’t be necessary after we brought in Eric Metcalf because they both can do a lot of the same things to help this team.

Metcalf joined the Browns in 1989 as the 13th overall pick out of Texas. It didn’t take long for him to show his value as he had 54 receptions out of the backfield as a rookie while rushing for 633 yards. His second season saw him haul in another 57 receptions but he really took off as a return man that season.

The second-year pro had 1,052 yards and two touchdowns as a kick returner and as his career continued, he started to shine as a punt returner as well. In his career, he had 3,453 yards and 10 scores as a punt returner. He loved this aspect of the game as well, saying it was his favorite thing to do in the NFL when speaking to Dawg Pound Daily shortly after his Hall of Fame nomination.

"“When returning a kick or punt, there are so many variables that come into play that can determine whether you are able to return the ball or not. With all that being said, returning is the most exciting to me because it changes the momentum of the game and can be a dagger to the heart for the opposing team.” — Metcalf said during an interview with DPD"

Metcalf would be joining a crowded running back corps in Cleveland but he also found success as a receiver later in his career. In 1995, he joined the Atlanta Falcons and had 104 receptions for 1,189 yards while spending the seasons as a wideout.

In short, there are so many ways Metcalf can help a team that he would have to be one of the top five players to be brought back for the 2019 season.
