3. Can Greedy Williams start Week 1?

After trading their first round pick in the deal for Odell Beckham, Jr., the Browns had to sit out during the opening night of the draft. Even so, they landed a first-round talent on the second night. LSU cornerback Greedy Williams started to fall amid concerns about his tackling ability as well as a low score on the Wonderlic.

Once he started to approach Cleveland’s turn (pick No. 49) they decided to make a move as they jumped up three spots to ensure they landed their guy. Now, the No. 46 overall pick looks ready to prove all the teams who passed on him wrong. The only question is whether or not he will begin to do that as a starter in Week 1.

Currently, the Browns have one corner spot locked down thanks to Denzel Ward. The No. 4 pick last season out of Ohio State, Ward made the Pro Bowl as a rookie and is expected to be even better in year two. Opposite him in the starting lineup will be either Williams, Terrance Mitchell, or T.J. Carrie. Both Mitchell and Carrie joined Cleveland last offseason as free agent additions.

Mitchell spent the prior two years with Dorsey in Kansas City and performed well in 2018 despite missing eight games due to a broken forearm. He’s likely the biggest competition for Williams and won’t give up the job easily — making for a fun camp battle.
