1. Joe Schobert, Middle Linebacker

Last, but certainly not least, we look at middle linebacker Joe Schobert. A breakout star in 2017, Schobert led the NFL with 142 tackles. He was named to the Pro Bowl for his play, one of the few bright spots in a season most fans were anxious to forget.

Heading into 2018, Schobert had gone from a little known reserve linebacker to a household name. He then racked up triple-digit tackles once again, netting 103 on the season while adding his second career interception and first two fumble recoveries.

He did all this while missing three games as he was out from Week 7 through 9 with a hamstring injury. As a side note, Cleveland lost all three games Schobert was out and he returned as they began their 5-3 second-half stretch.

As good as Schobert has been, there’s some room for improvement as he had far too many missed tackles in 2018. Some of this could be attributed to his hamstring issue but even if that wasn’t the case, it’s definitely correctable.

With that being said, Schobert makes up for this with his coverage abilities. According to Pro Football Focus (subscription required), Schobert was excellent in coverage, receiving a grade of 87.7 in this area. Overall, they had him as the 11th best at his position as he continued to trend upward as a player.

It could even be argued that Schobert needs to be taken care of before Damarious Randall. If he isn’t, then he needs to be next on the list.
