2. Greedy Williams, Cornerback

Sione Takitaki was an unexpected pick due to the fact that he wasn’t on many radars. Playing at BYU didn’t have him on the national radar. With that being said, some felt it was a reach to grab him where Cleveland did. As surprising as that pick was, the Browns first pick was even more unexpected — albeit for different reasons.

Cleveland was widely expected to take a cornerback with their first selection (which was in Round 2 due to the OBJ trade). However, no one expected it to be Greedy Williams. The LSU product was a top corner on many boards, with most experts having him gone in the first round.

Concerns over his tackling as well as a low Wonderlic score played a part in Greedy’s fall as he slipped into the second round. With the Browns pick approaching, and Williams still sliding, John Dorsey got on the phone and skipped a few picks in order to secure the talented corner.

Now, the 46th overall selection enters his rookie camp hoping to become a starter opposite Denzel Ward, and so far things are looking good for him. According to Anthony Poisal of the team’s official website, Williams is “locked in” and has done well against OBJ and Jarvis Landry — two Pro Bowl wideouts.

"“Williams is already locked in, and that’s no easy task for a rookie cornerback tasked with impressing coaches while practicing against two Pro Bowlers. Landry and Beckham, who Williams was covering when he made his second interception Friday, haven’t been thrown too many passes from quarterback Baker Mayfield with Williams in coverage.” —Poisal, ClevelandBrowns.com"

The rookie is already getting reps with the first-team defense which is a great sign. The Browns wanted to get better in the secondary and Williams falling into their laps has helped them do just that.
