3. The Kicking Battles

The kicking game isn’t going the way the newcomers expected. Jamie Gillan, better known as ‘The Scottish Hammer’, is kicking the ball with incredible power.

What he isn’t doing is nailing the corner kicks as well as veteran Britton Colquitt. Gillan is also trying to learn how to hold on field goals, something he didn’t do at Arkansas-Pine Bluff since he was the placekicker as well.

That battle is still close but it seems as though Colquitt has the edge. Cleveland could save nearly $3 million by cutting him but unless they feel just as comfortable with Gillan handling the duties Colquitt does so effortlessly, they will likely stick with the veteran.
This isn’t the real surprise though as Gillan was a longshot even though he is a fan favorite. What has been shocking is the way Greg Joseph is dominating the kicking job at the moment.

According to Daryl Ruiter of 92.3 The Fan, Seibert is 4-of-9 and hasn’t been close on his misses and needed a bank shot to score one of his four makes. Ruiter has Joseph at 8-of-9 with a miss coming on a two-minute drill. With that being the case, things aren’t looking good for the rookie fifth-round selection.

Knowing the team spent a draft pick on him, Seibert has the edge as they have more invested in him. Still, if it remains this lopsided, there’s no draft status that can justify moving on from Joseph.
