Mack Wilson starting to stand out

The Cleveland Browns may only be expecting to play with two linebackers on the field for the majority games, and they have two veteran linebackers who will most likely play most of those snaps during the season.

But the Browns drafted two rookie linebackers to bring some competition to the group, and they are doing just that. Sione Takitaki has made waves because of his intensity, but Mack Wilson is starting to quietly stand out because of his performance during camp.

During Friday’s practice, Wilson made a diving catch to intercept Drew Stanton, and returned it for a touchdown. Coming out of Alabama, Wilson’s biggest strength was his pass coverage, and he is showing that off during camp.

Because of his athleticism, Wilson is able to move across the field with ease, which allows him to make plays some linebackers can’t make. It remains a question of if he can be a reliable tackler due to his smaller frame.

Although Wilson has been playing on the second and third team defenses for all of training camp, he could start earning himself more reps with more practices like Friday. And with the Browns preaching competition, that is exactly what they want from their young linebackers.
