Cleveland Browns studs and duds from 2019 preseason opener

Dud: Greg Joseph
The Cleveland Browns kicking competition has been one of the biggest stories of training camp, as both Greg Joseph and Austin Seibert have had their problems with putting the ball through the uprights.
It seemed like there was not going to be any issues on Thursday night with both Joseph and Seibert hitting their field goals and extra points. Joseph was the primary kicker, taking the only two field goal attempts, hitting both of them, with his longest going for 43 yards.
But after Damon Sheehy-Guiseppi’s remarkable 86-yard punt return for a touchdown in the fourth quarter, Joseph missed the extra point, the only miss from the Browns kickers.
Although it was only one kick and Joseph kicked well for most of the game, the Browns need consistency from whoever their kicker is going to be. And missing an extra point is not going to get a kicker on a coach’s good side.
If Joseph entered Thursday’s night game as the leader in the kicking competition, the missed extra point should not put him behind Seibert in the battle. But Joseph had a chance to distance himself in the kicker battle, but failed to do so, especially with Seibert hitting both of his extra points.
