Cleveland Browns 53-Man roster prediction Preseason Week 2
By Randy Gurzi
With the first preseason game in the books, we pause to try and predict what the Cleveland Browns 53-man roster will look like when the 2019 season kicks off
There aren’t a lot of starting jobs up for grabs this season for the Cleveland Browns, which is a welcome change from previous years. In 2017, John Dorsey took over as general manager and he did an excellent job filling holes and giving the team a competitive roster, with quality starters on both sides of the ball.
While it’s true that most positions are already decided, there will still be plenty of decisions to make before the 2019 regular season kicks off. The Browns have a lot of youth on their team, and many of those players will be fighting hard for a roster spot.
We saw that take place in the first week of the preseason as the starting units sat down rather quickly and gave way to those trying to make the 53-man roster. On offense, there are some good battles going on with the third running back as well as the final one, or maybe even two receiver spots up for grabs.
Players such as Jaelen Strong, Derrick Willies, D.J. Montgomery, and Ishmael Hyman all made their case in this one and have other games to prove themselves as well.
On defense, Cleveland is looking for a few players to step up and prove they can provide some quality defensive line help. Chad Thomas made his presence felt as did Devaroe Lawrence. Unfortunately, Thomas was injured in practice on Monday, but he’s still shown a lot of progress this year compared to his rookie campaign.
Now heading into the second week of the preseason, we look at the roster and predict which players will make the cut as the roster is trimmed down ahead of the regular season.
