3 Cleveland Browns who improved status in Preseason Week 2

1. Willie Harvey, Linebacker
Just looking at the stat sheet doesn’t do Willie Harvey’s night any justice. The undrafted rookie out of Iowa State finished with just three tackles but his impact on the end of the game was much greater than that suggests.
Harvey made those tackles in the final quarter, two of which were when he stuffed the running back for no gain — although he did have help with the first one as both he and Carl Davis were there to end D’Onta Foreman‘s play before it got started. The undersized linebacker was also able to make a couple of plays that didn’t register on the scoreboard.
With the Colts trailing 21-18, backup quarterback Chad Kelly was moving them down the field as time was running out. Once he had them in field-goal range, at the Browns 31, he tried to go for the kill but was met with a blitz from Harvey. He didn’t get home, but he forced a hurried pass that fell incomplete.
Indianapolis did manage to get closer to the goal line and with it being preseason, they went for the win rather than the tie — because preseason overtime is not something anyone wants. On a fourth-and-one, Kelly dropped back to pass only to have his attempt batted down by Harvey.
In the offseason, Cleveland added a lot of talent to this position making things hard for the 5-foot-11, 230-pound Harvey to make the team. Even with that talent around him, he’s doing all he can to prove he belongs in the NFL.
