2. Joey Slye, Carolina Panthers

There’s something interesting happening with the Carolina Panthers right now as little-known Joey Slye has been playing well in the preseason while veteran kicker Graham Gano has missed time with an injury. So far, Slye hasn’t missed any attempts and is 5-of-5 on field goals with a long of 55 (he also hit one from 54 for good measure).

Even with his great performance, the team seems to be willing to let him walk soon and give the job back to Gano. Their head coach Ron Rivera has said as much and even mentioned the recent trade that saw Kaare Vedvik traded from the Ravens to the Vikings.

"“He can kick his way into the league. That’s for doggone sure. And that’s really what he’s doing right now,” said Rivera via Steven Taranto 247 Sports. “I promise you Chicago’s paying attention to what happened. Look at what happened (With the Minnesota Vikings’ trade for Baltimore Ravens preseason kicker Kaare Vedvik). There’s currency out there to be had.”"

Rather than waiting to see if Slye will be traded, the Browns could call now and see what it would take to move him. Gano recently returned to practice, so the Panthers could very well be ready to deal and get some of that currency Rivera mentioned.

Of course, they could also just wait until the Panthers ultimately move on from Slye and get him without using a future draft pick. But in that scenario, they would end up bidding for his services which may not go their way.
